Outdoor Misting Systems provide a cooling mist that can significantly lower the surround air temperature thanks to the fine water mist that is generated. The idea is that the water pipes that run the water are installed above head height around the perimeter of the area that you want cooled. When the temperature becomes too hot you simply turn on the water and it is forced through fine mist nozzles at high pressure.
The size of the water droplets that are produced is extremely small. If you were to measure them they would come to around 10 microns in size. By comparison a normal water droplet measures 200 microns. It is important that these fine droplets are small enough so that they will evaporate before they come into contact with any surrounding objects. As the water evaporates the temperature in the immediate area is reduced, sometimes by up to 30 degrees.
It is possible to effectively run a misting system by using the water pressure generated by the house water pipes. If you are prepared to pay a little bit more you can ramp up the pressure by adding a pump to the system. This turns your low-pressure misting system into a high-pressure system with some pumps creating water pressure of up to 1000 psi. The higher the water pressure the finer the misting spray and the more effective the cooling process becomes.
You can experience a much more comfortable summer in the backyard with an outdoor misting system. It is important, however, to ensure that you maintain your system properly and follow the instructions on how to ensure it won’t become clogged.
